Finally a new species as my present
Finally Santa's present arrived today...maybe It came from Superman (hehe).
better to be late than never.
Lovely trunks...almost all of them.
The bark is almost the same as a matured tamarind, but the cracks are much pronounced.
Roots were mostly in complete radial form
The leaves on top is from my "Chinese bush" -Syzygium buxifolium, imported as bonsai material from China, the one below is from this new species... The one from Chinese bush is already trained to be small, the new one is the actual leaf size of the new species from the wild.
I got a hunch this is going to be a favorite bonsai species here in the Philippines soon , much like breckea of Malaysia, and our Phempis acidula...And I am happy to show these very first batch of this species here in IBC.
If somebody can ID this I'll appreciate it much. I was looking for varieties of boxwoods or maybe Syzygium buxifolium (but the branch is bendable unlike Syzygium b. ) and none got the same bark color and character as these trees.
These guys will keep me very busy next year.
I will show the individual trees later.
I'll be happy to share this new discovery with my fellow Filipinos, just send me a PM guys...if you are interested.
Happy New year!
regards,
jun

Thanks guys!
here are some of the trees. The leaves and flowers are small and could be perfect for small and medium size bonsai.
I love this contorted trunk
clump style
windswept raft?
clump
windswept "Dude and kid"
broom style, less the lower branch
mame, even the smallest ones got cracked skin..
more later...

Re: Finally a new species as my present
Jun, the leaves remind me of Callistemon (bottle brush)....
Do some search yourself about it.
You have given yourself lots of new projects/gifts! Nice material!

Thanks Alexandra.
Yes, I find the leaves similar, but the flower and fruits are different, and the bark too. . I'll show it when it blooms.
