I know that it's not particularly "ficus-like" but I wonder if you couldn't settle on an image somewhere between #2 and #3. I like to be able to see some of the branches, rather than an uninteresting solid green mass.
I love the trunks and roots.

Tigerbark ficus

Jim: Thanks for your comments and suggestions....and yes, this tree has been a lot of fun to work with...just hope I can continue to keep it alive and well :-)
John: Good to hear from you....I have been working on it for about 2 years now....the tree was part of stock for a class and was ordered from Miami. Hope this helps.
