pistacia - Twisted pistacia lentiscus Empty Twisted pistacia lentiscus

Post  Marija Hajdic Sun Aug 15, 2010 9:40 pm

This tree was collected last year, and styled this afternoon. We are thinking about what type of pot ... so here are 2 virtuals, one with standard and another with stone-like pot. I hope we will find something suitable soon.

More photos of development are on blog:

The texture of the stone-like pots steals the show of the excellent trunk's bark, if I may say.... Embarassed

I am always trying to look on bonsai like unit form. I don't think that pot and tree are separate things. I don't wont to bother with details.

I feel the first pot is better as it makes a more dramatic contrast with the complex trunk. The natural rock pot just blends in with the trunk and hides the wildness of the amazing trunk. Maybe a simpler more angular and slightly larger pot would be even better.

The tree has a strong horizontal component and needs a wider shallow pot to go with that.

I'm no good at verts but I agree with Rob that a pot works best.......how about a dry creek bed finish pot?
Really great material.

I agree on the pot with Rob. It´s just stuning how quickly you are able to train decently looking crown out of a stump, impossible in our central european climate, or doable just with very limited number of species Neutral . I like your choice of keeping the secondary trunk where many bonsaists would carve an uro. Very natural looking tree, I am curious how it will look in another 2 years, uff, my congratulations! ThumbsUp

Pistacia has pinnately compound leaf so crown silhouette quickly looks full, but like other species for maturity can be only reached by time.
I agree with you on your opinion about secondary thunk, it is very important in this composition.

Thanks you and others for comments! Smile
