Pistachio
Looks very promising. Great work! Good pot colour. I really like legumes as bonsai.

Hello Rafael,
Nice result.
I preparing two similar trees for shohin.
Five years ago i bought them from a normal gardencenter, i keep them in the greenhouse over winter.
Here up north the strong spring growth is very sensitive for late frost damage i learned,
so one has to wait for the second -late summer- growth.
From your video i learn that you cut each shoot, with 8 leaves, back to 2 leaves.
Do they easy bud back on the old wood when i cut back branches,
or should i only cut back to the last leaves and do the cut back in stages?
I imagine, in a warmer climate backbudding will be a lot easier on Lentiscus-pistacea.
regards, Sunip

Re: Pistachia lentiscus - HIPO
thanks for the feedback ...
sunip well, I believe that every case is different, when I bought this plant was for many years in the same pot, was well established ... so severely cut in August and October was Like That
live in southern Portugal where temperatures are mild in the winter, the plant continued to grow even in winter ... again in the spring I cut back all branches, only the wooddy branches...
the plant responded with new releases, and then begins to branch, the plan for this year is slightly different as it has done re-potting, so this year I think to grow freely, but then cut back one single time once again only in lignified areas ...
in my exprience the lentiscus budds easily, however it must be well cultivated and established...

when i cut back branches, i cut all leaves... the leaving only woddy branches...
i cut 8 to 2 leaves because it looks better, it promote a litle back budding, but i think it´s better and more effective to cut all leaves to promote back budding...
ps:sorry for my english

Re: Pistachia lentiscus - HIPO
Hello Rafael.
Thank you for your answer.
I experienced after repotting lentiscus pistacea that they tend to shed all green,
afterwards the foliage comes slowly back.
This makes me belief that one should wait one year with styling after repotting.
Maybe one should do a good cut back at the same time as repotting because the tree does not support the foliage enough.
