Re: JBP questions....
I had previously acquired material to plant something like this. Then it happened to fall into my lap several years ago.
In poor shape, I think it's regained it's footing and should make good progress in the coming years.
Honestly, it looks pretty in person, bit the camera tells no lie......but I like it anyway!!

Really beautiful Lance!
Is the next stage to start showing some the branch work?
Are the needles at the size you want ?
Until.

2013-2017.
Hi Khaimraj!! I would like to get the branching a little more compact. Prefer not to have overly long, heavily wired/manipulated branches forming an excessively stylized silhouette.
If that makes sense. I'd like the needles to be at least a quarter to half the size they are now. Entirely achievable with a well timed spring prune, I believe. I am learning some interesting things about my particular growing season/climate that have given me a couple options when it comes to the cyclical patterns of JBP care.
Not re-inventing the wheel.....just trying to figure out how to give it the best "traction" for my climate. Right on the edge of JBP hardiness, I figure.
Thanks for your kind words and have a great day!!!

Healthy growth in abundance, Lance.
You are not re-inventing the wheel of course, but what you are talking about is a very important factor which plays a major role in sound cultivation, regional conditions and further more the microclimate at the growing place itself.

Re: JBP questions....
Great tree, I really like it and I am not a pine person.
Also, I really really like your garden!

Thanks for the kind thoughts BrendanR and my nellie!!
Still a long way to go, same with my skills handling Pines. But a healthy plant offers lots of options/confidence for styling.
I'll need to thin out branching on the smaller tree and get some wire in there. Yes, the same suspect wiring that's on the larger tree!!
Trying to bring some growth closer towards the trunk. It's coming, slowly.
Starting to lift itself out of the pot, it's grown strong. Water still flows fairly well through the soil, so I think a repot late spring 2019 will work.
Shortly I'll go through and do some light pruning and thinning of needles. Maybe scrape some of the topsoil off and replace with new substrate.
Next repot I'll rotate slightly to bring the smaller trunk towards the front and tilt the whole composition more forward.
Just a hobbyist, so "end results" for me are all relative....as long as I enjoyed the ride, I consider that a "success"......Happy Monday!!!

Very good photographs!
Show the ramification so well!
I love the illusion of a big tree
I agree, it's a success!
Bravo, Lance!
