Hi all,

I have a question regarding a small ligustrum that I have been growing in a large pot in order to thicken up the trunk... It has developed very well but for its height the trunk is still not thick enough. However if I reduce the height of the tree by half I will have an extremely nice base upon which to style a mame bonsai (I love mame!). My problem is that I really do not see the point of discarding the upper section of the tree when from one tree I could have two decent mame sized trees! Also if successfull, both the resulting parts have a good new leader to work from. So my question to you is... Is it too late in the growing season to start an air layer at the desired point? I live in the south east of the uk. The point where I would like to air layer is approx 15mm diameter.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

Agreed - I air layered mine April this year as the top half had gone a bit wild, separated the top late July as roots had established and now I have the original looking much better plus a potential triple trunk specimen to boot.
Well pleased
