Air Layering Question

Post  Tarek (from Lebanon) on Tue Nov 10, 2015 7:49 am

Hi IBC,
Quick Question:
Is there a maximum thickness for a branch that could be air layered? In another word, can I air layer a branch that is about 11 cm (4 inches) in Diameter?

Thanks

You might need to do some reading up on the tree / shrub, see if it can be done and how long to wait, and when to do it.

Just did a Tamarind branch this year at around 4" [ 10 cm ] and then had to wait 3-4 months for new shoots to see if was growing in soil.
Best of growing.

As previously stated it may depend on the particular tree or shrub in question - but I've successfully air layered trees/branches up to 150-200mm in diameter.

Thank you Guys,
The tree is Cypress, and from the quick reading I done so far it seems that I can air layer it.
I will try and let you know if it works in many months from now Smile

Hi Tarek,

I've successfully layered Sawara Cypress in the past so hopefully your attempts will be successful. Good luck!
