Forum Hobby Indonesia (FHI) and Asosiasi Klub Seni Bonsai Indonesia (Aksisain) are organizing a colossal bonsai event called "International Bonsai Art & Culture Biennale" ( Theme : When Art and Culture Meet Through Bonsai ) in Yogyakarta, an old historical/ cultural city in Central Java of Indonesia, renowned as the centre of classical Javanese fine art and culture .

The exhibition venue will be in an old historical Dutch fortress, the "Vredeburg Fortress Museum" and the "International Culture Night" will be hosted by our Yogya Sultan in the "Keraton Palace". All are within walking distance to the city center, Beringharjo traditional market, Malioboro night market etc. After the opening ceremony, all guests will join the "andong" horse-carriage and "becak" city parade to enjoy the unique bonsai display along the city boulevard.

There will be "King Trophy" from Sultan Hamengku Buwono X for the best bonsai, also “Ismail Saleh Trophy”, “Saburo Kato Trophy”, “Iwasaki Trophy”, “Amy Liang Trophy”, ”WBFF Trophy”, “China Trophy” from the Chinese Penjing Artist Association, “Ryuga Dragon Trophy”, “The Best Bonsai Display Trophy” etc.  Uncounted art & cultural activities during the event e.g. demo of batik drawing, silver jewelries, ceramic making, painting, sculpturing, traditional music (gamelan) & dance, wayang (puppet) show; touring to such as Borobudur Temple, Merapi Volcano, Taman Sari Water Palace, Kasongan traditional crafts center, caving adventures ; or we can also organize special tour to caving, hiking, diving or surfing adventures, to Bromo Mt, Bali Island, Tanah Toraja, Toba Lake, or other specific trips, etc.

We will also organize a picnic-trip where all guests will participate in the "Friendship Trees-Planting Picnic" as part of our green campaign activity. We are also planning to all guests to participate in the process of making “The World Largest Landscape Bonsai” for the museum record; last but not least, all international delegates will be requested to participate to perform their unique culture in the "International Culture Night" with their traditional costumes, of course …and more…

It will be from 18 - 21 October 2014, in concert with the celebration of 258-th birthday of Yogyakarta City; so we will also celebrate together the “258 Lanterns Night for Yogyakarta”.

Please jot down and reserve your schedule, bring your family and experience the great fun.

Robert, Fantastic. I will like to attend. Please make the registration, hotel booking, airport pickup and payment as simple as possible. Very often I find the registration so messy and inconvenient. Try to allow payment with credit card or paypal.

Cheers

I have an Idea Robert, Since there will be no contest among yourselves (exhibitors) Why don't you do it the other way around,,,let the visitors compete. Just like on the spot design challenge, You can group delegates from other countries, maybe by countries or groups composed of people from different countries. maybe they can compete on huge penjigs or tree design challenge...and of course there would be Ryuga tools as prices...hehehe. You have to spend some bucks for the trophy too.

It will be fun and a good interaction activity among the foreign delegates.

One of the way to make this exhibition unique is that we will encourage all the participant to use different way of displaying their bonsai, not like the most bonsai show. We will open a consultation and brain-storming forum for display ideas..etc...

By so, we hope we can blink out some fresh and innovative ideas.... I am sure you can help on this Jun. Just post it here if you have any unique ideas (I know you have)... or anyone.....

Good idea Jun !

Although no compatition, but we will present several different awards beside the "King Trophy" from our Sultan; such as "RYUGA Dragon Trophy",  maybe WBFF Award, or BCI Award, ABFF Award, Prof. Amy Liang Award...and "The Most Innovative Display Award".
We will also do the "Audiance Choice". Every visitor will be given 3 flags where they can put onto the bonsai they like...etc...

Country groups competition..Hhmmm..yes, we will think out something. Anyway, we will certainly have lots and lots of interaction activities together.

BTW, we will also ask for good bonsai photos from the different countries to be displayed during the event..
