Defoliation Empty Defoliation

I am in Zone 5. I have a small trident maple that is already fully leafed out. I am planning to show it May 19. When should I defoliate?

As you know, you may still have a cold snap or two up in Zone 5, so keep a close watch on the temperatures as it sprouts new leaves.

Well I know. I watch the weather forecast closely. We have a good week coming up. Our frost-free date is April 30, so it won't be long. Oh, yes, it doesn't come with a written guarantee. bounce
