Re: Visit to Erik Wigert's Bonsai garden, FL
I'm gonna have to go with Dr Gonzo on this one. You guys are arguing two different opinions. While Chinese trees may have been styled in this manner for decades, or even centuries, it was first NAMED and Recignized as a "style"(this is a peculiarly Western way of anal classification) through The bonsai work and writings of a few important South Africans....and Vaughn Banting, an American who I think may have designated "flattop" style a bit earlier, for Bald Cypresses.

Ryan,
if you invent something without giving it a name then you didn't invent it?????
By the way I am quite sure this style has had a name in China as well.
Even if it's just called like it's first appearing town or so... We simply don't know it.

Andre: Have you read THIS? If not, it's everything you need to know about posting pics. It's very easy as all you do is press buttons and you seem to be good at that. Let me know if you are still having difficulty.
Now can everyone b****er off and have a great weekend instead of getting their smalls in a stutter over names. Otherwise I will authorise a who can pee the highest up the wall contest to resolve it.
Said in the spirit of banter because life's too short really. (insert hunnerts of smileys here)

What a complete load of rubbish Max - the act of inventing something is constructive and unique. At most you only need to describe it or show it - you are the inventor. To name an invention is a secondary act to create wide spread understanding, or branding, of the invention. Whether you choose to add a name or not does not effect the fact you are the inventor - how do you explain modern branding where an inventor shows his product and a marketing person names it......??
Luckily all the proper bonsai styles were created, 'named' and described long before ridiculous egos got involved - if left to the stylists of today we would get the stylists surnames as the style, branded, trade marked and copyright protected! - I could think of nothing worse. And personally I believe no-one invented a bonsai tree style - they evolved over many years or were copied from nature, so that goes for South Africa too.
haha - all this thread from a visit to some blokes garden !
Peace and love - styled in the Lennon laid back style

Oh I dunno - I think Tickle Style has a certain ring to it. If nothing else it might just summon up the right amount of fun and pleasure which is what bonsai should be about.
Think all the heavy stuff of this thread is about done now.

Marcus,
you didn't read the whole thread!
Otherwise you would have realized that I wrote exactly the same and that my question was ironic in that context.
The only thing I didn't write but do also think like you is:

I do exactly say what you write here!!!marcus watts wrote:

It's dead easy Marcus. Quotes are separated by bits of code. When you hit the Quote button you will see two bits - one at the beginning of the quote and one at the end.
To split up the quote, you just hit the Quote button as normal but then separate out the individual sections you want to comment on using the appropriate bit of code. Simplest way of recreating the code is to copy and paste as it appears on the original bit you've quoted.
