John
In researching pruning times for my Betula nigra spring project I learned that with regards to hard pruning its best to wait until after the first flush of leaves extends and hardens off in spring. I've heard from a number of folks that Birch tend to be resentfull of life in a pot. I interpret that to mean there are root issues, I plan to work my roots down slowly. I also wont do a top reduction and root work in the same year but I'm a very cautious fellow.
