Very nice materials. I guess you spent a lot in acquiring these babies, did you?

Might be finicky to grow but doesn't seem too finicky to collect. How long can you leave those roots without soil uncovered?
Can we see the site where these trees were collected? Collected sustainably I hope.
BTW I see at least 3 and maybe 4 trees in the first specimen.

@jolz: yes. hehehehe.
@Rob: 2 weeks to 1 month without soil. it depends on the pemphis material. if there is a lot of roots, 2 months it will survive without soil, but don't put it in the sunlight, 2 weeks without soil the pemphis will give shoots even without soil. i collect this material in this area: this is the link: https://ibonsaiclub.forumotion.com/t8602-pemphis-as-a-charcoal
thank you.

Jong,
The ones you had were saved from extinction. Sadly, the rest that were left behind will surely alter it's chemical composition and turn into carbon in the near future unless the local officials prohibit harvesting them for charcoal. I have visited a place last year wherein pemphis are really abundant, but collecting them is taboo, the area was declared by the local government as a fish sanctuary.

Jolz

Re: new materials, multiple pemphis
jolz: Yesterday i went there to get my material and my friend buy a charcoal for only 100 pesos or 2 us dollar per sack in that area.
in the area, they have their law to prohibit getting those trees. but the problem is, they only make it as a charcoal. so if you were to choose, to make it as a charcoal or a bonsai?
Rob: it's very hard to collect pemphis because it's very rare already. because not all area has pemphis. lucky for us, we still found an area where there are a lot of pemphis. it is because there are a lot of bonsai collectors here in the philippines. and also because of the livelihood of the residents in the area, where they make pemphis as a charcoal and firewood.

Hi Jong, for my visit details, please contact Jun.
My comments are :
- You should decide to which direction the overall flow goes, to the right or to the left; then you adjust the foliation accordingly and reposition the potting position as well. In my opinion, I will make the flow from right to the left.
- Change slightly the viewing angle so that the middle tree either closer to the right one or to the left one; avoid the same distance.

Robert, how I wished to attend your workshop, but unfortunately my schedule don't allow it as I will be back abroad the whole month of February. Hopefully, my schedule will permit me on your other future workshops.

Jolz
