FICUS ON ROCK
This Ficus longisland is also from one of my oldest collection, have been trained for more than 15 years...
And this is how it looks now...
....and when I looked at it today...I was not very happy with it, and I had decided to change the composition.
Anyone knows what I am going to change ? (Sorry Jun, no reward this time... )

Planted on a slab with more trees, accents, and rocks added to the composition?

Re: FICUS ON ROCK
Well, I'm at a disadvantage because I really haven't seen any ficus in nature...but I think a starting point might be removing the lower left foliage mass?
Then maybe fill out/enlarge the remaining foliage? This is too simple/symmetric, and would need some structure within the masses, but something along these lines?
Probably totally off base here, but it's kind of what I think a big ficus would look like in "the wild".

Re: FICUS ON ROCK
OK. What makes me dislike the existing design is the apical crown shape which does not reflect ficus character, it's more a common mind-set to form the triangel composition. Although I had cut the apex, but still not satisfied...so here it goes...
One thing for sure..if you spend few minutes on your bonsai, you will always find something to improve... and that's how I do.
Hope you enjoy it...and Merry X'Mas and Happy New Year 2012 !!!

Re: FICUS ON ROCK
haha, Hi robert,
That was a bit like a big huge firework that gets you all excited......but after lighting and running away you are rewarded with a little shower of ( very pretty) sparks............................
Crams was really dynamic, i liked it.........with a lion or a giraffe in the shade though
This image is a bit too dense for me though, a few nice spaces would break up the solid mass of leaves i feel...unless it is a massive tree image from 1/2 mile away maybe.
your recent threads are getting dangerous for my house though- i quite fancy playing about with some indoor ficus trees........up until now bonsai has just dominated the bulk of the garden...
cheers Marcus

Re: FICUS ON ROCK
What a holidays' imagination Marcus...haha...
Ficus in nature are always very dense, I am even thinking of wider canpopy. In my opinion, dense is OK, but it should be in irregular shape with sufficient contour on the foliage edges. Anyhow, some empty spaces here and there will help...
I'd love to see yours...
