As I said, I think this tree offers a range of possibilities. It's hard to truly appreciate what each view offers from a photo, as you lose most of the 3-dimensionality.
As for me, I'm at the (beginning) stage where I tend to see "standard" type tree designs much more easily than "out of the box" designs. I'm sure that will change with time, but even seeing the standard possibilities is something that has taken time to develop.

Please don't take what I said as an insult in any way, Chris. It would be a beautiful tree as you have envisioned it, and in many other orientations, as you have said. I would have planned to go the direction you did, too, if not for the suggestions of my teachers.

Don't worry, didn't take it that way at all! One thing that has become obvious to me is that there is (usually? always?) no single "right" way to style a tree - everyone has different preferences and experiences. Makes things more interesting!
