Re: lonicera nitida
Hello PBH,
Good progression.
You got a nice big trunk there.
My experience with Lonicera nitida is that they do not bud back so easy
on the trunk.

I think you've done the right thing with the hard cutting back from the confussed trunks that you started with. Good job!
I don't know when the last image was taken but to me it seems a bit of a harsh "haircut" from the image above. I have a couple of this species and they grow like the clappers and I have to trim mine 3 or 4 times a year. I've found that copper wire on the very thin twigs (the ones that are still flexible) works best and sets quicker but do be careful of the branch expanding very quickly. You should be able to get a very pleasing image in another 18-24 months.
If this tree were mine I would try and reduce the overall height to try and lose the very straight upper trunk or try and discise it with some nicely placed foilage clouds. As for a pot, I would go for an oval with hidden feet and no rim in a blue/green sort of glaze. Please keep us posted,

Much better like that! I thought I had big ones, but you beat me
I put photos of some of them online, and I still have a couple waiting to be worked on:

Hi pbh
You have a nice nitida..but the pot is much to low for this kind of tree...some surfaceroots may die back.
kind regards Yvonne
