Want to go Hiking ? New York State -Mid to Lower Hudson Valley.
Hello everyone.
Is anyone interested in a hiking buddy to explore the mid to lower 'Hudson River Valley' in regards to trees and stones.
I have no Bonsai experience-zero.Stone collecting? I know the basics.
A list of the towns i do have some experiences with viewing and collecting.
Westchester County:
-Croton on the Hudson
Putnam County:
-Putnam Valley
-Mahopac
-Kent
Orange County:
-Pine Island
-Crawford
Ulster County:
Gunks in General.Short for the Shawangunk Ridgeline Dwarf Pine Barrens.
-Cragsmoore
-Ellenville
Sullivan County:
-Wurstsboro
-Westbrookville
-Cuddebackville
-Godeffroy
Schoharie County:
Few spots in the valley while driving though one day.
I am bored of going by myself. I am not a card holding member of any bonsai or suiseki group.
My nature is not to study, read much other than some captions nor is crafting part of my make up. If i look at a photo ? I know i can hunt whatever " It " is down when it comes to found objects at these locations. Call me a hunter then. I just like to view trees and collect stones. That means i am not likely to ever work a tree into bonsai for sure. Nor take a stone to the next level such as formal displayment. Trees I leave alone because i am too lazy to learn bonsai. Why bother them. But i sure do admire them in the wild.
And Stone ? I do collect stones but i seem to love explaining to strangers or friends what each stone means to me. What happens is i give that person the stone. Therefore as fast as i find stones. That can be a good gage as to how fast i give them away. This fuels finding more once in a blue moon.
Enough said on the introduction to who i am. Feel free to be yourself. Perhaps we find what you are looking for along the way. I love helping others.
This ends the longer than i expected topic on, " Looking for people to hike with ".
Anxiously awaiting someones , " Yes lets go Richard ".
Thank you,
Richard F.

I made a looooong reply but it erased it when I hit Send! I want to go but live too far away. I have been to Barton Garnet Mine, and Herkimer Diamond Mine, and that is about all I know about the scenery of New York State. I have a little tent we could have used but it got covered in oil so I don't know if its useable. You'd need to teach me to hike since I have only walked day trails and camped in a campground. I could call you Mountain Man and you could call me Vulture Bait.

Sounds like fun, but I'm waaaaaaaay too far to take you up on the offer.
Much safer than hiking the Iran/Iraq border (idiots), and I bet the scenery's better too!

Sounds like a great offer but I'm too far away and have too many bonsai to leave behind for a trip. I grew up in Ulster County along the Esopus; and very close to the Hudson River. Tannersville, Devils Kitchen, Fawns Leap and Woodstock were favorite haunts. Route 32 (up and down the mountains) was always a thrill in every season!
Have fun!
