Redwood about 17 inches tall from the pot rim. Today I did a bit of trimming and some lime-sulfer on the deadwood.
This tree came from Mendocino Coast Bonsai a few years ago. Check the link

I would be interested in finding out what factors are involved in producing such a weathered looking tree. It appears to have had a hard life at some point of time.

Carolee, the father and son that own Mendocino Coast Bonsai have access to a secret location where they collect naturally stunted redwoods. And, they don't sell them cheap!!

That wonderful Redwood bonsai represents the work of Mother Nature...likely a good many years...enhanced by Mike's TLC...

I like it Mike...

Brings to mind a redwood stump...if that's what you call it...in a stand of Redwoods in the East Bay (SF Bay) hills...probably 10-12' diameter. This Redwood met it's demise before the cross-cut saw was introduced to California's Redwood Forests...and, over the years and years...and years...was probably subjected to several forest fires. About 1/3 of the circumference was below the level of the soil. Quite an interesting sight.
