Tamarindus Indica

I bought this tamarindus indica few month ago. About 30 cm without pot. This picture is performance after total prun.

One of my favorite trees. Had a beauty once sentot. Very nice.

Asam jawa!

Try to grow a few sacrifice branches at the top make it a bit thicker and to make the transition between the old trunk and the new one smoother.

tamarind aka asam has very nice dark colored rough bark that contrasts very well with the brilliant green leaflets. Some areas of singapore along the roadsides, u can see some nice "umbrella shaped" old tamarind trees with lotsa dangling pods

Did you get this tree in Pluit?

I have several trees in Pluit, including asam jawa, santigi and cemara udang.

There is a bonsai show that opens tommorow in Jakarta.

I got this tamarindus indica at tulungagung (small city in east java).
Cemara udang also interesting, but santigi I think is best for bonsai.
Hope someday I can see your bonsai.

no jrodriguez, majority cant even identity the tree itself, but the fruit/seed pod they use is everyday, especially by malay hawkers, in singapore, most pple call it asam instead of tamarind

This is a six inch trunk tamarind, developed from an air layer. Currently the top portion is being left alone to make the transition a lot smoother. Note: This tree belongs to my student, Manuel Perez.
