Looking at your first photo, I would remove everything above the first branch to establish taper. This is very tropical.

I agree! This is a fast grower and I think should work well using the clip and grow method. If you wire, don´t do so very tight or it will bite in fairly quickly.

I´m training several of this specie for a windswept forest.

How big a tree do you envision? It looks to be about a foot tall and thin now. Where do you plan to keep it in winter? They do grow very fast in tropical conditions. It will not like being in a living room in front of a window; it will survive but not thrive. I have a couple and they do very well in a heated greenhouse in winter (and that's in Zone 8 ) and prefer it outside in summer. I would not cut anything and let it grow freely to thicken up the trunk, unless you need to keep it rather small.

For the winter I will house it in a spare room that has natural southern light and will also have a 4' T5 bulbs on them

I really have a medium size tree in mind. but looking to you all for suggestions on trimming. So it sounds like everyone thinks to cut it dow to the first branch?
