Japan 2011 - Seijyu-en in Hiroshima
We went to Hiroshima and had upfront heard about a nursery there. Unfortunately we was there on a Thursday, and as it is common in Japan all nurseries have their weekly closing that day. We had some spare time left, so we decided to make a short trip to the area though. One place was open despite the closing day, so we were able to pay it a visit to our luck. Actually, if you take the train from the Hiroshima station to Shin-Hiroshima (one stop - takes about 15 minutes), there is a small community of bonsai nurseries close to the railway station. We located five different nurseries there.
It is evident that nearby the bonsai nurseries also the private collections are viewable from the street. It seems like nurseries and interest/possibility to have bonsai is closely connected. Not many grow their bonsai from low level raw material like we do in the west I believe.
Seijyu-en is a small nursery with a good selection of all sizes of bonsai.
