Pondering a collected Ponderosa Pine with Valavanis' help!
I bought a collected Ponderosa Pine at a bonsai club auction in Rochester, NY on a hunch. There were a lot of items to be sold and the pine was on the floor, ready to be hoisted up and for the bidding to start. I had a hunch that there was a "tree" there and ended up taking it home. After getting the tree home I studied its trunk lines for about two weeks, deciding that the "front" of the tree was really the "back" and that the tree's design had to be reversed, i.e. the old "back" had to be the new "front". I then decided to take the tree to a workshop with Bill Valavanis and to get his input as the tree was being restyled. The opening of the video shows the tree as I brought it home and then the video's location switches to Bill's workshop and then, again, to home. I hope you enjoy the video. The tree will, of course, need substantial refinement over the next few years but its basic design is set for the moment.

Roy, that's a great transformation! Going to be a fun tree to work with. I had looked at it for a long time before the auction but decided it was a little larger than I wanted at the time...figured there had to be a good tree in there with that trunk and root system. Looking forward to its evolution. BTW, I'm the "Chris" you met at Bills place on Thursday.
