Among interesting aspects is the title "International Exhibition of Suiseki & Shangshi." Can anyone explain it? Were the shangshi entirely Chinese stones in Chinese seating or did it include international stones/seating in modern Chinese style? Did the European Suiseki Association vet stones for inclusion as shangshi or suiseki, only?

Hi Chris
This was a good question, I also thought about it.....
My own dry chinese stone was exhibited in its chinesemade daisa ( everybody call it a dai, also mr. Juneu Kim from USA, who gave a lecture).
Many stones was bought on the BCI-Chinatour, without the daisa, and the owners exhibited them in suibans, or with a homemade daisa, wich is high quality in The Czech Republic.
No stones was shown weath, but some vere polished...to me, they vere no longer suiseki...but the owner rules.
What could be interesting information, Mr. Juneu Kim, who original came from Korea said:
Suseoks ( Korean suiseki) were never central objects of display in scholars' study rooms. Only few stones were shown unobtrusively near the books or calligraphy brush tables. Never just the stone alone. As far as I understood would mr. Kim exhibit the suseok together with a stack of maybe 4 ancient books.
Kind regards Yvonne....I will post photos of chinese stones.

Thanks Trantanhung
About the weath stones....Chris, I am not sure I understand.....where in the stoneworld is it normal to exhibith weath?, some chinese stones are being oiled, is it this, you are talking about?.
A stone in a suiban can be weath, if it is placed in water, if it is chinese or japanese style, or both? I dont know.
No stones in this exhibition was oiled.....but they were exhibited, like the owners wanted them. I found the exhibition tastefull. The style, was to the japanese taste.
Kind regards Yvonne

Welcome Yvonne ,
I ' m not rich English to be able to explain for you to understand ... But I knew i loved the character your stones ...
In front of a stone ( viewing- Stone ) , I usually do not pay attention to other factors , except the STONE and
FEELINGS of it ( this stone ) give to ME ...
Thank you for your question .
Sincerely ,
Hưng - Trần .

Dear Trantanhung
The stone is also what matters to me. If you have a eye for the stone, you will see it no matter what.
But the exhibition was very Pretty....
It was Chris' question, I tried to answer....maybe he will respond.
Kind regards Yvonne
