I would go with a larger by at least 1/2 and use a natural clay rather than a color. Oh, an oval.

Re: opinions for a pot!!!!!!!!
no glase, oval, natural grey, to light greenish grey maybe a little on the deep side to bring out the "mammoth" in her.

Re: opinions for a pot!!!!!!!!
Hi Eric, hope you and family are keeping well?
Your tree reminded me of mine, both are powerful images, rugged, gnarled nebari and lower trunk,
for this reason I think a soft cornered rectangle would be good, also the nebari on your tree would fit better into a rectangle shape, it looks like it fills the present pot into the corners, and it looks good doing this.
Here's a picture of mine, one of the most notable features of hornbeams is the Autumn colour, so I chose a glaze with a hint of blue to contrast the vivid orange of Autumn, and a powerful pot design with top and bottom rims.

Hi John, regards from Cyprus
I see your point with the soft cornered rectangle....you do not lose the dynamic masculine look of the pot while having a softer outline, that matches a powerful broadleaf.
Lovely combination.
Thanks for sharing.
I would personally go with something similar for the tree in question

Re: opinions for a pot!!!!!!!!
i was thinking about the oval, but like john said it fills the pot now, and it has to be a big oval when it should fit in.
so my thought's are going out to a rectangle, and i really like the soft cornered one.
sometimes its difficult to choose the perfect one, there are so many beatifull pot's.
should make it more easy when have a couple off pot,s and hold it in front off the tree.
but thats the challenge.
i will think it over all the advices, and many thanks.

I would go for the the john Pitt pot, with the rims, and the corners.
Kind regards yvonne

Re: opinions for a pot!!!!!!!!
Thanks Will,
Stavros, you are exactly right!
for me it's all about matching the characteristics of the tree with certain features within the pot, and the pot I showed did just that, in my opinion of course, there will always be personal taste when it comes to choosing a pot, but some features work better with specific trees.
Thank you Yvonne, pleased you like the combination.

Eric
With a trunk that big and giving a feeling of age, the Duffet pot although a very good pot is too new in style. The pot John has or similar shows the tree to its true age and maturity

Re: opinions for a pot!!!!!!!!
Thats a very good point Paul,
Age, or apparent age, is also very important within the whole image, we are after all creating "old" trees,
or the illusion of an old tree, so also very important for the pot to fit this criteria, (illusion or otherwise)
Antique pots are not an option in most cases, but I think its possible for a new pot to have an aged look about it,
and for an ancient looking tree worth considering when choosing a pot.
