birch over 12 years
This birch is about 12 years old. Found as a seedling it grew up in the field. 3 years ago it was set into a training pot to get more control and build up a branch structure.
The first picture is from spring 2010.
The second one is from now after repotting the tree.
And the last one shows the birch after cutting back and wiring.
Nothing spectacular but a lot of fun indeed. The tree is 60 cm high.
regards,
Marco

I think this was a very fine tree. It has come a long way. I also like the pot choice.
Was it alot taller when you cut it back? I thought that a birch would die if you chopped the trunk. Havent seen many as bonsai.
Thanks for sharing.

Marco, this is a nice tree! I have a two tree planting that I'm working on. I find them easy to grow. Only one problem I find is aphids.

Hi Marco,
A very nice tree indeed. Spectacular oflate has become an eye sore atleast for me. Trees such as these bring out the subtleties of a fine bonsai in their simplicity. Great tree....

When the tree was in the growing field the leading shoot was cut back regulary, once or twice a year. Also the roots where treated at least every second year. This is important to get a good taper/Nebari. Related to a birch the shoots you cut off shouldn`t be thicker than 1,5 cm, because of the bad wound healing and the absolut not resistant wood of a birch.
