Preparing trees for The Best of British Bonsai
Those members who are fortunate to have trees selected for the Biggest show in the UK BOBB this year should be putting the final preparations together for your tree(s). There were instructions supplied when you entered your trees for selection... but remember the organisers reserve the right to refuse your tree if it does not meet the required standard. Mostly it is simple stuff, pot clean, soil surface well dressed, dead leaves removed, wire (if used) PERFECTLY applied and not too obvious.
I will be showing my tall Blackthorn for the first time at the show along with the bronze dragonfly (seen here recently) as an accent... the tree is just coming into flower... a bit early... I was hoping to have it in flower for the show.
I will be working with Enrico Savini during Saturday on a fantastic large yamadori Juniper of mine. (not this Yew seen in the picture!)
We will be working alongside Salvatore Liporace
On Sunday Enrico and I are conducting an 'Open Workshop' for ten persons. The workshop will be open to the public to watch and listen but NOT participate or comment unless invited. There are 5 places left and I want to invite IBC members first. The cost is £20 and includes your entrance to the event (£7.50 on the day). This is a great opportunity to be part of the event AND have tree worked by one of Europes greatest artists (and me!) If you wish to participate please PM or email me before the 5 April so that I can confirm to the organisers how many attendees.

Hi Tony
When and where do you usually put up the BOBB show every year. As a committee member in our local bonsai club, this year I have organzied to go to the UBI San Remo show with 19 members. Next year I could organizise to come to the BOBB show. So can you give more details or give me a link about the usual BOBB programm. Thanks beforehand and have lots of fun.

Hello Tony. Both my Elms almost ready and the smaller is just coming into leaf. Just the moss to go but dont want to do it too early and give the Blackbirds an opportunity to spread it around the garden.
Andy. Looks pretty full on at these BURRS workshops. Even the camera can't focus on your work rate.

Re: Preparing trees for The Best of British Bonsai
I'd love to participating in the workshop, but unfortunately it falls the day after my wife's birthday, so permission will most definately not be forthcoming.
And before anyone suggests I take her to BoBB as her birthday treat.......don't even go there!

Hi Alex, you are on the money when you say that there is a lot of organising a big event such as BOBB. I am sure that Steve Tolley was inundated with trees, my best advice would be to follow up with an email: please see attached images of trees sent for consideration at BOBB please can you let me know if any have made the grade? I am guilty as many at missing or not following up on mail. Worth a try I think.

Re: Preparing trees for The Best of British Bonsai
I heard from Steve back in the middle of January, so I would imagine if trees had been accepted, those custodians would have been informed by now. I agree that a follow up for all that took the time to enter their trees, should get a reply.

Hi again Tony, the members have indeed been trying to contact Steve for months but to no
joy, only because as you are well aware of the work and prep needed prior to any show & not to
mention the accommodation planning.
