Could you tell us what height and trunk diameter please. I am trying something similar with a shohin-sized one, so this has given me a few ideas.

What image are you trying to achieve by carving out so much of the wood? I think I understand that you are trying to improve the taper. I like the second to last photo with the interesting carving. But then you hollowed that out. What is your final design plan? Thanks.
