Hello Pola. Peter Landerloos may be able to help you out as he bought a very small leaved Privet at Noelanders Trophy.

Re: ID needed....
I have a bush with similar glossy leaves growing in my front yard. The leaves turn yellowish when grown in full sun. My bush is Ligustrum vicaryi... I am not sure if it is the same as yours. Google it and compare for yourself.

No, I looked. I would guess a boxwood, if they grow in PR. Let it run loose & see if it blooms. Try to find an agricultural extension service or a university botany department. Maybe Jose Luis or Pedro Morales can help.suburbia wrote:My bush is Ligustrum vicaryi... I am not sure if it is the same as yours. Google it and compare for yourself.

I have to agree with you Russell! The bark sure looks like Ligustrum ovifolium to me. It very well could be a small leaved cultivar.

The bark is not right for Ilex crenata

Yes, that bark says Ligustrum to me. Don't know what type. Pretty leaves though.

Exactly. Not a boxwood or holly. The bark gives it away.

Leaf (and bark) looks like L. sinensis -- tho some of them are darker green than mine ever are. Other leaves look identical. I suppose someone may have had a lot of time on their hands and developed a dark-green-leaved cultivar.

No discusion possible its a privet of some sort, Will hehehe yes i did buy a japanese privet, but the bark on my tree is old, this is young way to young.
I cant imagine people thinking this is box , box trees never have this kind of juvinile bark.

The leaves, yellow flowers and your location (Puerto Rico) leads me to believe that is a Neea buxifolia.

Damn, I didn't catch that. Neea .... out of my comfort zone ..... a real possibility. But my gut still says ligustrum.

Uups, it is not a Neea, sorry. The bark would be smoother.

I am not that familiar with the genus Ligustrum, but these leaves don't match the Web photos of the species that have been mentioned so far. But I know it is not Nia, because I have a group of them right here. Nia leaves are a little more oval & less box like, & the growing tips are reddish.

Re: ID needed....
I'm still pretty convinced that it's one of the ligustrum species (L. ovalifolium, L. obata, or L. sinensis) all of which have dwarf cultivars. Anoter possibility is a dwarf honeysuckle (Lonicera microphylla). They all have the same bark forms. Knowing if it does indeed flower and seeing the flower would help a great deal in winnowing down the possibilities.

Thanks for all the replys guys! I guess if i bought it labeled as ligustrum it should be that. An experienced friend told me it was ilex,so i wanted to be sure. I know it's not a neea, since i have some of those. Pedro Morales will be giving a demo at my club soon,i'll see what he thinks....thanks again my friends!

The yellowish spot in this picture with the leaves made me think Neea, but Dorothy is right on the bark texture of a Neea. Neea has smooth bark, so I'm gonna say my guess was wrong.
