Thanks for the clarification. I thought maybe you had to leave that wire in place for a while to ensure that the trunk didn't separate over time from the pressure of the wedge below.

Hi Will, like the others...... I appreciate these types of threads, really speeds up the learning curve.
One question/observation - it appears that the new soil mix is way more "inorganic" that the original mix- was it? If so are you trying something different or?

Thankyou all and I hope some you find it of some use. It might be an idea at some time in the future to have a a section on techniques? Like bonsai questions or pests and diseases.

Great post Will! Was this tree naturally hollow or did you hollow it out yourself?

Hello Pola. The tree started as a cutting and was reduced heavily. The resulting cut was hollowed and a shari was cut down the front.
