Wire for a beginner
I have been reading about bonsai and one website I have found recommends buying 1mm, 1.5mm, 2.5mm, and 4mm to start. Is this the wire everyone would recommend for someone beginning? Also, what is a good affordable place to order supplies, such as wire, in the U.S.? Thanks!

I am not sure that "affordable" and "Bonsai" work in the same sentence, but I buy all my wire at Bonsaimonk.com. You might find other vendors who are less expensive but their wire may not keep its color. (I use aluminum wire that is color coated to look like copper, the cheaper wire will soon turn white and look like what it is.)

The wire sizes you get will be determined to some extent by how large your trees are -- or will be.

Right now I am just going to work with Junipers. Next year I think I may try to find a Trident Maple or something different. The plants I have are in one gallon pots and I bought them from Evergreen Gardenworks. I don't plan on doing any of the larger bonsai in the next 2-3 years, so I will most likely stay with the medium/small sizes. With that said, should I alter the size wire I have orignially posted? Thanks!

Wire
4 mm. is a bit heavy for small trees. You might also want to get some 3 mm. Unfortunately, the only commercially available wire caddy is rather expensive. You can make one from PVC pipe.
