You planning on making a shohin out of it, right?
From the photos it is already storting to back bud. With a trunk like that it should look awesome. Any chance of repotting it in a LARGE grow box and spending a few years airlayering off the top sections till you get to the bottom?

Interesting trunk but no branches down low. What time frame are you putting on this tree?

Obviously is a big trunk so the first branch will need to be fairly large. It is budding back which is good but the question was how long will it take in your climate to grow a substantially thick first branch to make a credible bonsai? Considering boxwood I would think maybe 5 to 10 years.

Re: Old Buxus from Poland
...probably more than that time Rob. 15 years maybe and 20 to be proportioned to the trunk.
its a very good point. in my case, some times i keep on forgetting that consideration in my own search for good material. trunk size does matters. i want a bonsai that i will enjoy in my lifetime personally and not just for my grandchildren in the future.

Czesc Jacek,
Maybe a jin-ten (dead wood at the top, as if struck by a lightning) would be a good option.
One of the best specialists for buxux in france is François Gaut, perhaps you can get some inspiration from his work :
buxux 1
buxux 2
collection a collection of trees he showed on various exhibits.
Of course, François lives in the south of France : Nick, i've seen box-trees as high as 5 metres there, with a huge butress. But the climate is different, and it will take more time where you live to achieve a good result.
