Re: larix from poland
Hi Piotr,
welcome here on IBC!!! And what a beautiful tree to show us in your first post here!!! Great transformation and I love the way you show your tree in the last picture! One little point of critique: in this picture it looks like the bottom of the scroll is on the same line as you low branch, that should be avoided. Well don indeed! Show us more !!
I made your pictures a bit bigger so they are easier to view!
Cheers,

That is an awesome before and after
Hans,, why not the bottom of the scroll in-line? I didn't realise this was a no-no..personally I quite like the aesthetic balance...but then I like clean lines.
All the best

Beautiful work indeed and welcome to IBC!! I agree, the tree and scroll lining up creates a very powerful horizontal line that takes the eye away from the "prize". Tangents are always to be avoided in all forms of visual manifestations unless you want to direct the eye to them

Hi Mike,
I answered your question earlier this afternoon, but it seamed to got lost?
But I will give you the shorter version!
In a composition like this, were two elements are used to complete one total picture, you should always try to avoid straight lines, because they divide spaces in to geometrical forms and have the strange habit to force our eyes unwillingly to follow them. And they mostly lead our eyes to the sides of the picture. The place were the tree of your competitor might stand! In this case the bottom line of the beautiful cascading branch continuous in the bottom line of the scroll and from there on to the right side of the picture. You dont want that.
Just by raising the scroll a few inches, the magical strait line is broken! And now the line of the bottom branch falls unhindered downwards and than our eyes have to go back upwards to the scroll. Now there is no square shaped empty space screaming for attention any more.
But I dont want to hijack this post any longer! All honor to Piotr, it is a wonderful and mature looking tree!
Cheers,
Hans van Meer.
