cascade casaurina/ironwood more than a meter long
Hi IBC friends,
here is my another casuarina, this is one of my favorite trees.its looking strong with lot of new buds.
the profile of casuarina. badly needs the haircut.
checking for new buds that i can use in the future.
thats me starting the branch selection and doing the "haircut".
the branches i selected for the design platform. il let the tree recover its strength first before i do some serious wiring.
twisting shari and jin from view above.
another view. the shari/ dead wood i made last summer is doing well also.
thanks and regards,
jun

Great tree Jun! I would probably consider cutting half the tree off and just leaving the first few branches Perhaps leaving a portion for jin. I think you may end up with a much more compact design with a very powerful trunk.

Very nice Jun. I would keep the full length if possible. That shari is too interesting and valuable to lose.

MACH5 my thoughts exactly. I think the tree will definetly look better if the tree is halved. However, doing a virtual before undertaking this drastic step is required. Thanks for sharing.

Will,
thanks.
MACH5,
thanks. il keep the full tree first until i completed the design i have in mind, then i can decide afterwards if il reduce the size.
Cosmos,
thanks. its rare for a cascading casuarina to have a full length like this tree, probably this is the only one if completed. to have something different is my objective for now, then if i get bored with the design and its not good enough i can easily cut it in half.
Luciano,
thanks.
regards to you all,
jun

That deadwood is amazing and the tree is so individual. I would never compromise this tree by losing the long shari branch. All the character would go for the sake of a smaller more average semi cascade.

Re: cascade casaurina/ironwood more than a meter long
Jun, does ironwood refer to some characteristic of the wood of casuarina, i.e. stiffness?
If positive, how difficult is it to carve a shari or jin or anything?
Very beautiful tree anyway!

Alexandra,
Hi.
"ironwood" is just another name for casuarina, its also called "australian pine" though it is not a pine tree. ironwood as i have understand it refers to the trees strength and toughness. the deadwood is almost the same as a typical pine so dealing with the shari is almost the same as any other tree. ( any more experienced friend from IBC can correct me if im wrong, please do so)
thank you.

Very interesting tree Jun... I like it very much. Good to see the tree throwing off branches vigorously. I am sure you are going to come up with a great tree in the next couple of years from this material. And yes hold on to the full length of the trunk. It is always easy to saw off half the tree and regret it the rest of your life..
BTW why do we get to see your back side and not your face

Hello Jun. Glad to see you have left the cascade branch alone. It is far too dramatic to lose in my opinion. I agree with Ravi, it's about time we saw your face.

Alexandra,
thanks.
yes indeed.
these ironwoods are becoming my favorite lately...I love the shari of these trees.

Ravi,
Thanks.
When I change the diet of these species, I think they love it. the growth rate increased well...I have to rewire the branches again just after 2 months. most of the wires I put in place just September this year already bit the barks . No cutting of trunk needed, I got new shoots coming out in the middle portion of the trunk...

And speaking of which Ravi.... Too many people hide behind another image or give themselves an alias. No need.
Reveal yourselves.....in a good way.

You asked for it and in all fairness....
Ok,
It seems a fair request. I dont hide behind images, it is just that I love that pic of the tree bark that I took and it seemed good for a Bonsai profile as barks like that is what we gun for...
Before being accused of something else.... here I am.. the pic was taken about a couple of weeks ago... dont blame me... You guys (Will & Jun) asked for it...
Regards
Ravi
