Interesting piece of dead wood... Would be a shame to just throw it away. The result for now looks very good to me, so I think you did a good job...

Great Tanuki. If I were to critisize, the deadwood has great movement and drama. The branches and foliage do not. Its not too late to put more character in the branches.

I like how you cut a flap then then hid the screw head under the flap. Probably a very good idea with a juniper. I am making some tanukis with premma and with ficus and they seem to cover the screws without making the flap. Still a good idea to try though.

I'm trying to make one too, I already have a dead wood for it, but I have some doubts, do I need to wait until winter to do it in a shimpaku juniper? How long does the wound takes to heal?

February here in Brasil is summer, i think it should be better in winter which is in august, am I right?
