Late summer shohin display
A late summer shohin-display often shows less flowering trees, because most trees blooms through springtime. Instead the matured foliage and new growth shows the seasonal change in the display. These are classic displays and I have tried to capture the essence of the time of the year in the choice of trees. Simplicity, harmony, peace and beauty are keywords in a bonsai display, and hopefully it is present in the display. Feel free to comment, criticize i.e. Its all an learning process.

Howzit Morten,
Wonderful displays. You have some beautiful Shohin. As far as I know about Shohin that it takes a lot of work and it shows in your trees. Keep up the good work!!

Those are great...Thanks for sharing those.
Displays #3 & #4 I think are best. I think because in #1 & #2 there is not much variety in the elevation of any element.
What is the small plant on the stand opposite the needle juniper in #4?

Thanks Neil and other replies.
The small Mame-bonsai is a Cutleaf, Stephanandra incisa 'Crispa'.
Height: 11cm / 4,3 inches.
It shows small flowers in early summer (June).

Morton. Just wonderful. You said it yourself so well, "simplicity, peaceful harmony. You have achieved this by giving appearance of old large trees with lots of movement reduced to miniscule size. Seems like a story in each tree. I have been working on lots of tiny'fat boy'trunks but you set bar as teaching example to go beyond just the the form(design) Thank you so much. Dustin Mann

Morten,
As usual your Mame & Shohin fill me with peace and inspiration. Your trees fill me the desire and the hope that I will finally have someday I will be able to create such stunning trees in the future.
Having just returned from a "bonsai free" family holiday this was just the pick me up I needed from all the seaside, can I have an ice cream sort of stuff.
Thanks for sharing such a wonderful Summer Collection,
Love, Peace & Bananas,
Simon

Re: Late summer shohin display
Morten,
Looking at your trees has always a special effect on me. Half of my small collection are shohin. It´s fascinating to develop the eye for beauty in detail, in smallness. This is indeed a great gift. By the way, I was expecting something like the blog you just started...Funny, isn´t it?
Thanks a lot for sharing and take good care.

Incredible display Morten! Your artistic sense and finesse is quite remarkable and very inspiring. For some reason your work reminds me of the work of some of the Dutch masters of the 17th Century. Their work was small but painted with incredible technique and artistry. Thank you for sharing!!

Everybody. I am pretty amazed by all these positive comments. Thank you. It is very inspiring for me, and I am happy that these small trees makes an impact.
One of the next days I will print another update on my website regarding display issues, and the size of Shohin-bonsai, guided by All japan Shohin-bonsai Association official instructor Tomohiro Matsumi. I will let you know when available. Interesting for Shohin-bonsai enthusiasts and who organizes Shohin exhibitions.
