Re: AIR LAYER ??
You can use any good clear plastic and even black if you want but the clear allows you to see the root forming. Why not try an old small plastic flower pot cut half way through and wired on to the tree easy and when you cut off the air layer its all ready potted.

I'm using the small sized bubble wrap plastic and find that it is more durable and easier to apply. Plus, you can see the activity going on with the air layer. I have used cut down nursery containers before and had some success. Good luck! Salut, Todd

Like Ricky said use plastic wrap from your kitchen. I use it and it works quite well. I also like to then cover the plastic in tinfoil to help keep the area warm. I like it because it is versatile and easily acquired.

I have used the kitchen plastic wrap or a used piece of polyethylene sheet. I wrap aluminum foil over the plastic to keep light out. The last japanese maple I layered had lots of roots forming in 3 or 4 weeks. I also used a rooting hormone.
