Japanese Maples by Peter Adams. Any good?
Just about to add this one to the collection but before I do I know I can be assured of some genuine recommendations first. So is it a good one?

I have a couple of books by P.Adams and have found them extremely informative. Although I don't have this one, I expect it's his usual high standard.

Yes me too Will, they are signed as well. I met Peter many years ago and cannily had the books with me, hence getting them signed
Amazon are the cheapest I have seen at £13.88 including free delivery (by bicycle it would seem as it is 3-5 days). One on the bay for £19.99 inc free del which I almost clicked on. Thought I would do a search first...good job.
Peter Adams always struck me as someone who was pretty darned good with Maples; that large one of his was beauty personified.
The recommendation earlier prompted the purchase.

Is it the recent reprint edition? If so it is one of the best of Peter Adams books, as it has benefited from a much longer period of development and refinement. That goes for the trees, wrtiting, drawings and photo's. I really like this book and refer to it as much as any other of my favourites.

Its a good book. You should also get a copy of "the art of bonsai" by Peter Adams. Good info on styling and the artistic aspect of bonsai. Also the entire last 2 chapters is very good on pinus sylvestris. Excellent book.

If you own "The Art of Bonsai" (Peter's first book, I believe, or one of his earliest) and several of his other books, you should find it interesting to see how many of the trees pictured in "Art" have matured in pictures in his later books. I have most, but not all, of them.
I don't think you can find a better series of bonsai books. It is the bonsai equivalent to Ansel Adams' (no relation as far as I know) series on Photography.

Yes Jim, a signed copy by Peter himself. Heck of a nice man as well.

In the early edition, this was the first book to show a significant number of Gordon Duffet pots. In addition to Peter's trees & explanations, to see those pots was stunning.
