I believe that what you have is the species "Escallonia rubra". Nice find and I'm sure with your talent you can make a quite fine bonsai out of it.

Possibly Red Dream, but there's so many of them, 40 + species. All the varieties with 'Donard' in the name have their origins here in Northern Ireland. They are hybrids developed here at the Slieve Donard Nurseries. There's about 30 of them alone! The shape of the flower does point to it being a variety of Rubra.
