Re: Wessex show
Hi Jerry,
You might have arrived back from the show last night, but i only arrived back in body, it was only about 2 hours ago I arrived back in mind, so how did you get all this done already???............Explanation, Jerry sleeps all the way to shows and back, He thinks Bournmouth is 10 mins west of Swansea!!
Great photos as always Jerry and what a great day, the quality of the show has shot up over the last couple of years. Thanks must go not only to the participants but also to the Wessex club for giving everyone the chance to get involved.
My personal thanks go to the Dragon members for there work on the day, to the Swindon "boys", Bob Terry and Paul for there encouragement,
To Paul Esinger just for being Paul, to Mo and Dave for producing more great pots, and not forgetting ( how could you) Manwell and Itilo
for there smiles , we have also arranged to do a demo at the Bonsai south west show ( Sunday June 6th) so that will be the joke about the Spanish, Italian and Welshman!!!, We will have a few hours in the morning to work on a tree and have a lot of fun, I cant wait!
Regards to everyone
Chris

Re: Wessex show
How nice it was to see some extra 'day trippers' at the Wessex show.
I remember the first show which the society put on, it was the first truly 'Open' competition in the UK, 21 years ago. Open to all amateur bonsai enthusiasts.
In subsequent years entrants travelled from all over the UK to take part, Russ Farley and Tracy Morton regularly attended and took silverware away with them.
Recently, only the Welsh boys and Swindon members made the effort to attend together with South Coast societies, the show having very few 'long distance travellers'.
Yesterday was different with Mark and Ritta Cooper (who took away a sack of silver) and the indomitable Ian Stewardson attending with their excellent trees.
It was nice to see all who attended and took part together with the chance to have a gossip.
The judge Paul Goff, did a sterling job.
I hope that next year we might see even more adventurous souls travel down and take part.

Re: Wessex show
Hi Dave. Looks like a good 'un. Well done to the organisers and exhibitors alike.
Sadly we in the midst of the Scottish school exams right now and so this is my busiest time of year and I just couldn't escape from my panicking pupils (or at least the panicking Mummies!) for the weekend.
Mebbe next year when I've won the Lottery and don't need to grab all work opportunities as they arise.

Thanks for sharing and keep them coming. I'd be interested to now what categories there were to enter within the competition.

Re: Wessex show
This was our first time to the Wessex show, both as visitors and competition entrants. I have to say how impressed we were with the quality of the bonsai, the organisation of the event, the excellent food (!), and the friendly atmosphere.
So thanks to Ken, Jim, Malcolm and the rest of team at Wessex for organising a great bonsai event and making us so welcome.
There were some really great displays too staged by various societies which were not part of the open competition, and I think we may be guilty of sometimes forgetting about how much effort and expense these guys go to stage these displays, so I think a special thanks is warranted here.
Kudos to Paul Goff too for the time he spent post-judging in providing a great deal of feedback and explaining how he arrived at his decisions ; very educational.

Here are a few more photos of some of the trees and accent plants in the competition :-

A couple of Kusamono in the Accent Plant competition:-
Best Accent Plant : Dave's beautiful Pleones in a Ci Barton "flying Saucer" pot

Bob's Mame Tsurumodoki and hut stone on the Swindon display:

Hi Mark and Ritta,
Thanks for posting.
You definatly had a successful show. Loads of silverware won, not to mention the bottle of red.
I for one am glad you raised your profile a little and attend the Wessex's show.
Look forwards to seeing your rock planting next year.
