I love the tree!
What is it that you plant it in? I think it looks very nice compared to my redish cat litter.

Is this the yew that was styled by Steve Tolley and shown in Bonsai Focus nr. 77? It improved a lot since then. Super
Could you show us the back of the tree too?

Aloha Henk,
Very nice tree and mahalo for sharing.... well done!! IMHO, the bonsai pot works well together. If I may ask, are you using Akadama as part of your soil mix?

Thanks Ed, Hawaiian, Storm, Nik for the nice comments.
Hawaiian, the tree is standing in akadama and Kiryu.
Ed, The pot is from China, but I am looking for a better (and smaller) pot. (but I have to wait a couple of years to repot again)
Nik, indeed, that's the tree Steve styled in 2005 (Bonsai Europe), we decided to take the other side as front.
That's the back of the tree, as I said, the tree has to grow now.
Thanks for looking,
Henk

another cuspidata
Hello Henk. I remember this tree in Focus magazine and at the time thought the back would make a better front. The old front, in the magazine had a very straight branch that came towards the viewer. Has this gone now?

Fantastic yew with a great future as bonsai. I like the new front much more than the old one. The way the lifevein moves is very beautiful. Definitely an improvement...
Branch placement is very good on this tree, only branch that bothers me a bit, is the second branch on the right. There is already a guy-wire pulling it down, but I would try to lower the angle just a little bit more in the future. I think this will become a real stunning bonsai in a few years...
Regards,
Hans
