Big yew (taxus)
Small is beautiful, but big isn't that bad either: I spent the last of the money I had planned to invest on bonsai this year on this yamadori from Marc Noelanders.
The nebari (the base) is fantastic I think. I don't want to kill that one!!!
We'll see next year for styling.

Nice looking Yew, was this a garden plant originally? You will have to keep us post with pics.

Alain,
Do you have an update on the progress of this Yew? I am curious as to your training regimen.
Thanks,
David

Re: Big yew (taxus)
Hi,
The tree was bought from Marc Noelanders through my club : we bought about a dozen, then we drew numbers, I was lucky, mine was the one I would have chosen
This is how it looks today. Still a lot to do, especially with the dead wood, but it lacks a branch at the back to give some perspective, so I'm feeding it for now, and will work on it again next year and put it in a new pot more adapted to the final project :

Re: Big yew (taxus)
Actually, so do I
I hadn't thought of that option, but it does look very good.
I'll have to check tomorrow with the tree "in real life" to see if it can take that direction, but thanks, this is a very welcome suggestion.

Thank you everyone for your encouragements.
I don't have much merit though, the world of bonsaï is often unfair: even a pissed artist like me can expect good results with such a good material from the start. I'm much more admirative of what some of you can do with improbable yamadori that they can turn into masterpieces.
But thanks, it helps me to carry on after a period of doubts
