A Blackthorn or another Plum
I'm not sure if this is a Blackthorn or some type of Plum maybe someone out there can tell me.
I obtained it from a bonsai nurseryman who had about six but had kept this one for himself, but found he hadn't
the time to work on it and sold it to me. I've put on a few posts so I thought I'd better show a tree.
As obtained 1999
In flower just before JOB 2010, half the flower buds turned brown I think through the frost.
Just after it's last trim 2010.

Re: A Blackthorn or another Plum
Geoff, you did exactly what I first thought, when I saw the 1999 shot.
I don't think it is a blackthorn. It looks more like a Prunus cerasifera, Myrobalan Plum. Does it get fruits after flowering? If so how big?

Re: A Blackthorn or another Plum
Kev,
It does fruit, but I don't generally leave them on. The're about 15 mm dia. and green but could turn purple if left.
I just looked to see if any flowers/fruit were still there, but unfortunately no. I'll make sure to leave some on next year.
Regards Geoff

Not Myrobalan plum then. Their fruits are about 7mm. Yours could be a gage or damson maybe.
