This is a Prunus cerasifera which was dug up from the side of the road years ago. It was about 6 feet high then. Now it stands about 7 or 8 inches. I'll post another pic as the flowers open but I particularly like it in bud.

Very nice!

Here it is sometimes difficult to keep them healthy in the summer, especially this year which was the hottest summer ve've had in 60 years, and ther's often some dieback so I assume you live in a rather cool and humid part of Oz, don't you?

Anyway, congrats for the work you've done thumbs up

Thanks Alain and Vlad. Yes Southern Oz. Cool wet winters and hot dry summers. This year we had 2 days of 0 degrees C which is the coldest in many years. Usually minimum is about 5C. In summer we have to cover everything with 50% shade. Even Black Pine! But I'm really sick of the cold.....

Cold? That's funny.......

Really nice tree, and DOES look wonderful when it's budding.

It's all relative. My wife is from Nth East USA and she hates the damp cold here even more than the frozen air back home!

This is my inspiration for the future Elm i have.

May i ask you what is your feeding regime and the type of soil you are using.
and if you have any other photos of the progression would be great.

Hi Rui,

The soil is basically fine orchid bark (3-5mm) 75%, quartz sand (2-3mm) 20%, peat or good fibrous loam (5%)
Feeding is extremely important!
I make my own organic fertilizer cakes (2/3 soyabean meal, 1/3 blood and bone meal) This is used every 6 to 8 weeks over the warmer months. (This size pot would get 4 to 6 cakes about 25mm square) For a boost in cooler weather and occasionally in summer (like before defoliation), I use a good quality hydroponic fertilizer. Once per month I give a kelp extract. Twice per year I sprinkle dolomite lime on all the rose family.

I don't have many early photos of this tree but here are some I found:

Last year at the start of spring..
