The flower is slightly larger,as is the leaf which is a rounder shape. Damson also make a bigger tree. I can't bear to eat either raw. Far too sharp and make you look like a bulldog chewing a wasp. Stewed, jammed or mixed with sugar and Jin....Now your talking!

It must be damson then! As I did notice the leaves were slightly more round as you describe. I don’t remember seeing any thorns either come to think of it. Thanks for the speedy feedback.

Fuzzy.
Damson's do have thorns but not as many as Blackthorn.
Andy. When they are ready for showing, I will let you have a very close look at my Plums

Hiya Will,
Lovely tree, it really suits the deadwood and your carving is very natural.
From the last 4 photos you posted which is your favourite front? I like the 2nd one mainly for the deadwood and trunk line. I also like the 4th one - the glimpse of the twist of deadwood makes me want to move round the tree to see it from another angle.
Any tips on shoot pruning? I have an apple (unknown sp.) and have found if I prune the shoot when it is green, it dies back a bit. Should shoots on these only be pruned when they are more woody?
Paul

Hello Paul. Personally I like the third image and the vulnerability and open space in the middle of the trunk. The top needs a lot more work as yet. I don't have any trouble with dieback with Sloe, They are quite a strong tree. Haven't much experience with Apples.
