soil experiment
Hi all, well! Into the repotting season! This year I'm going to be experimenting with a new soil mix (usually I've used Akadama Kyodama 50 - 50 ratio) the new mix is very open - gravel 5mm at 50% vol, vermiculite at 20% ish vol and something that I have recently discovered called 'Eco Aggs' it's a by product of the ceramic industry - it looks like ground up china - white/grey approx 3mm at about 30% vol.
It's very open in texture, drains well but the vermiculite seems to hold water well - as for feeding I intend to use slow release fertiliser pellets - I was considering adding a very thin layer of organic material on the surface for encouraging moss - any thoughts?
Will let you know how things shape up during the year.
