Ficus One Year Progression...
This tree belongs to the friend Flaviano Santos of Rio De Janeiro.
It is a Ficus Retusa easily found in our country. Below the process of evolution of the tree in 1 year.
Flaviano Santos Wrotes:
Today, I moved in a tree that was presented here one day after its collected.
Day 14/02/2009 it makes one year and would like to show the evolution.
To comment that this project, I have made a fertilization extreme, with an exaggerated solar exposition, using the good one and old technique leaves of it to grow, trims…
We go the photos: It in the day where it arrived:
First day...
25 days...
60 days after...
Here, I carried through the first intervention, election of what it found would be the main branches, buys at auction of the cuts and choice of the side would be the front, was made also one correction in an enormous scar beyond an attempt to stimulate the aerial roots.
After this moved, it was in the fattening and the maximum , made was to keep the standard of time for the prunings and fertilization.
I had modified the positioning of the front, in the truth I changed therefore the left side I was more I finish and this deprived of characteristics the structure, and there I left the twig that made the apex to go up.
Process of cicatrization of the scars:
Idecided to adjust the positioning of the branches of deep also, by the way, I made a beautiful cleanness.
I removed the marks of old prunings, and tried to place it of a form already to search my pro future agreement of it.
Yesterday….
Regards from Brazil Flaviano S. Santos.

Re: Ficus One Year Progression...
Wonderful progression on branches in one year. I like the tree very much because of the heavy old looking trunk and base in a banyon style. Just a personal preference to see a trunk ,then aerials outside. Just pillars of aerials with no trunk feels like chaos (middle of a forest)instead of harmony to me. Your tree is taking off and probably has several nice views. Dustin

Re: Ficus One Year Progression...
Nice job , I love the tree so much, you did a great job in just one year, I know to create the aerial roots , you should rap the trunk with sphagnum moss or ???? & keep it moist & even cutting the bark to insert a small sand in the cut to hold it open , then rap it , is there any other & better technique to create more aerial roots ?
And the other thing : what kind of tree do you have in the first picture's background ?seems to be a nice big tree .
Thank you for sharing .

Are you saying Ficus microcarpa (syn. retusa) is naturalized in Brazil? What about other Ficus species?luciano benyakob wrote: It is a Ficus retusa easily found in our country.

Re: Ficus One Year Progression...
This variety of Ficus, with gray trunk, was introduced in the country for the Portuguese.
Come of Goa and Macao, when of the foundation of the Botanical Garden of Rio De Janeiro.
We also have the variety Tiger Bark, spread for all the country.
These trees had arrived at Brazil in 1815.

Re: Ficus One Year Progression...
I know that you can aid the ariel roots but first wrapping the area in sphagnum then when a root starts to form using split drinking straws, cover the roots and routinely water into the straw. Just a thought:) Very nice progression after one year. It's gonna be very nice.
