My first tree 8 years on

I dug this tree almost exactly 8 years ago.  It was my first considered attempt at bonsai.

Your tree looks very nice. Did the branch on the right die or did you decide to take it off.

I am curious as to why you converted what I feel had the start of a nice clump into a single trunk tree. Nothing wrong with that, but I am interested in the thought process.

I was initially looking for the best base and it was likely going to be a triple trunk. But with the long straight and taperless trunks the options soon excluded themselves. In the end this tree sort of designed itself.

The branch died - I'd have preferred it to be there.
