The biggest sloe in my yard.

Most of the Blackthorns I have ever seen as a bonsai are having snake like look.  Slim trunks often nicely twisted. Cracky bark. Lots of character.  The best ones are from UK in my opinion

This potensai is quite different.  Will be fun to make a tree out of it.

Nice material and an interesting carving job.

Presumably the bark is complete on the backside of the tree? Is there a view showing more live vein?

Either way, a nice prospect. You certainly have access to some great material (I am jealous )

Thank you, Richard.  There is just a strip of live vein c. 2'' wide on the main trunk that is somehow connected with live roots on the front (see the new shoots there ) and on the back.  The interesting part is the amount of new shoots on the front just above the ground level. I have a project in my mind to make use of them: Live vein on the front .
