Re: Pinus sylvestris from garden centre
Looks like pretty good material to me. I didn't notice the double trunk until your second post.

Would that I could find ANY Pinus material at our local nurseries here in Texas, much less great material like you've found.
I might have trimmed it up differently but that is the beauty of Bonsai, different people, different interpretations.
What are your long term plans for those longer low branches on the left side?

Re: Pinus sylvestris from garden centre
aint no donkey ball slurping going on here
really glad you kept both trunks !!!
my only suggestion over would be to make the shorter of the 2, just a touch shorter to enhance the height difference...
i am sure that the longest branches will be chased back in time, yes ?
also glad you showed the overhead photo too...
that is definitely not a one-dimensional tree !
dig it !

Thank you very much for your comments
One of the 2 main trunks is actually a bit taller and is gonna get even taller with new growth in time, and I hope that that and fuller foliage pads will balance the gap in the middle and those long branches on the left, even though I like them long I had some kind of raft in my mind when styling this tree and it shows I think. The branches on main trunks will be selected later and some of them cleared.

I would think about losing one of those double trunks.

Great start.
Could you use some heavy wire to bend the outer trunk in a curve out and then up, away from the middle trunk? That might balance the image a bit more?

He could. On the other hand, that's what makes this tree different. Gives it some soul.M. Frary wrote: I would think about losing one of those double trunks.

Re: Pinus sylvestris from garden centre
There is no way I would cripple this tree by removing double trunk I could get another single trunk pine anytime and style it in a similiar way but it would look much more ordinary. For me the magic of this tree is in those two trunks and large two side branches and I saw the design right after I looked into this tree in the garden centre.
But thanx for the opinion !!!!!!!

Nice find there, Mimo!
I might suggest though that you could put a piece of wood wedge between the two trunks to move them slightly more apart.
This is your tree and your design by all means!Mimo wrote:There is no way I would cripple this tree by removing double trunk ... ...

Re: Pinus sylvestris from garden centre
I have been thinking about it and actually might do that in near future, however I would like to bend the front lower trunk more to the right and a piece of wood would only push it more to the front.

Re: Pinus sylvestris from garden centre
I got another pine the day after I got the one from this thread.
We styled it yesterday with Julius Kolesar on workshop of bonsai club Košice.
The tree after purchase:
My plan was this:
So I turned out at the workshop with this:
And this is the result for now after consulting with Julo and considering other alternatives.
He would prefer to remove the bottom branch on the right and make the crown going the other way but I could not identify with that look.

Well done
You selected some lovely material and have an exciting vision for both trees.
Hope to see more. Lynn

Hi, Mimo
I can imagine what Julo has in mind...
If you don't mind me asking, isn't it a lot of foliage removing in one go, I wonder...?

Re: Pinus sylvestris from garden centre
Yes it is.
Guilty as charged.
Nevertheless I believe that not so old garden centre plant can take it.
I hope.
I wouldn´t do it on older yamadori tree though.
