Best method to propagate Catlin elm?
Hi Bonsaistas,
I have a 1-gallon overgrown Catlin elm plant (a small-leaved evergreen elm) that I have had a hard time striking cuttings from. I'm not the best a propagating anything more than willows, so any bulletproof, but simple, methods would be great. It's about to be spring and I'm starting to repot here in the Portland, Oregon area. The Catlin is yet dormant, no obvious signs of movement.
Also, any guidance for root cuttings?
Thanks,
Al

Root cuttings are easy. Just plant the root with the top sticking out of the ground. The longer the root the more you can poke up into the air.

Thanks for that, M. Frary. I figured I'd find some gnarly roots in this pot-bound specimen, but I really bought it to strike cuttings from the branches. So advice still sought! Keep it coming please.

I've just taken cuttings and stuck them in the same pot or bucket the tree is growing in. On chinese,American and Siberian elms.. No hormone just pole them in when I'm trimming. These are in full leaf of course.

"Pole them in?"
Thanks! What does "pole them in," mean? Probably something I've already done, but would appreciate the clarification due to my bad luck thus far.
