You'd better keep a fire extinguisher close to the maples ready to use... Great colours not to mention the Trees!

That's what I love with deciduous, the changes in colours through the seasons. this one is far from being a top-shelf bonsai, but it was built from a 3 mm cutting some twenty years ago and is one of my oldest bonsai, so...
And the pot by Erin Pottery adds to the pleasure I have to see it evolve.

Something about Japanese Maples in the spring harkens to me a time of youth and noticing the flushing of the skin and the flashing of eyes for the first time. The tingle of the hairs on your neck seem to be electrified.....bursting with energy.....until the "fall" of our "discontent" when we tend to look pretty frumpy.....
Nice pot to boot!!
Maybe not "top-shelf", but I could "drink" it all day!!

Okay Lance,
now my big question is if you allow a spring flush like that, how do you keep your branchlets
delicate and in keeping with your slim of trunk and elegant pose of your tree ?

Re: Fall colorings.....
I believe the plan is for a fairly hard cutback on over-vigorous branching. Back to finer branching/weaker shoots.
Spring bud plucking should be the next logical course of action. Maybe in '17 but most definitely by 2018....
A bit neglected when it first came to the ranch so we've worked on building good vigor. Check!!!
